“Left Behind”: 6-Month-Old Baby Dies After Being Forgotten in Hot Car for Hours

A devastating tragedy in Rockwall, Texas, has left a family grieving the loss of a 6-month-old baby after a routine morning took a fatal turn.

Rymedi Worth was in the care of her step-grandfather, Camerone Leichman, who was supposed to drop her off at daycare. Earlier that morning, around 8:15 a.m., he drove his wife to school. But instead of continuing on to daycare, he returned home — unknowingly leaving the infant strapped in her car seat in the back of the vehicle.

As the day progressed, temperatures rose rapidly.

Parked outside in the Texas heat, the car became dangerously hot, with interior temperatures climbing to extreme and deadly levels. Inside, Rymedi remained trapped, unable to escape or alert anyone as the heat intensified hour after hour.

It wasn’t until later that afternoon, when Leichman drove to pick up his wife, that the horrifying discovery was made. She found the baby still in the car and immediately called emergency services in a state of panic.

Paramedics arrived around 4:40 p.m., but it was already too late. Rymedi was unresponsive, with a reported body temperature of 107 degrees. Despite efforts, she could not be revived.

Authorities later confirmed that Leichman had not returned to the vehicle at any point during the day.

He has since been arrested and charged with injury to a child resulting in death, a second-degree felony that carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Rymedi’s family remembers her as a joyful, loving baby whose life was just beginning. Now, they are left mourning the future she will never have — as a community struggles to understand how such a heartbreaking oversight could happen.
