Iran Claims 600KM Offshore Missile and Drone Strike on US Destroyer in Arabian Sea
Arabian Sea — Iran’s Navy has claimed responsibility for a coordinated missile and drone attack on a United States guided-missile destroyer operating more than 600 kilometers from Iranian shores, marking a significant escalation in the broader US–Iran–Israel conflict.

According to US defense sources, the warship was conducting routine patrol operations in the northern Arabian Sea when radar systems detected multiple low-flying drones along with at least one long-range anti-ship missile approaching from the northwest. The reported trajectory suggested a launch point deep within the Gulf of Oman, far beyond Iran’s traditional coastal defense perimeter and outside key maritime choke points.

Battle alarms were immediately sounded as the crew moved to full defensive posture. The destroyer launched interceptors and activated close-in weapon systems, successfully destroying most of the incoming drones. However, officials stated that the anti-ship missile detonated close enough to the vessel to damage mast-mounted sensors and other exposed equipment. Several sailors were injured by shrapnel, though no fatalities have been reported.

The incident challenges assumptions that US naval forces are secure once operating far from Iranian territorial waters. Analysts say the claimed strike demonstrates an expanded operational reach by Iran’s naval forces and signals heightened risks for military vessels transiting the Arabian Sea.
While full operational details remain limited, the event underscores rising tensions in the region and highlights the increasing volatility of maritime security amid the ongoing confrontation.
