Chaos unfolded outside the Whipple Building as a large anti-ICE protest erupted into a tense standoff between demonstrators and law-enforcement officers, leading to dozens of arrests in a rapidly escalating confrontation.

According to authorities, crowds gathered early and quickly swelled, blocking building entrances and surrounding nearby streets while chanting slogans and demanding an immediate halt to immigration enforcement operations.

Police say the situation intensified when some demonstrators allegedly refused multiple dispersal orders and attempted to push past security barriers set up to protect the federal facility.

Specialized units were deployed as officers moved in to restore access and secure the perimeter.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene marked by shouting, flashing emergency lights, and people being pulled from the crowd as officers worked to break up tightly packed groups near the main entrance.

Officials confirmed that dozens of individuals were taken into custody on charges related to unlawful assembly, obstruction, and failure to comply with lawful orders.

No serious injuries have been reported, but authorities say the investigation remains active as video footage and body-camera recordings are reviewed.

Law-enforcement leaders stressed that the operation was focused on maintaining public safety and securing a federal site amid rapidly rising tensions.
