Dan Bongino Slams DNA Delays in Guthrie Case: “What the Hell, Man?”
Conservative commentator and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino has weighed in on the growing frustration surrounding the investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie. The case, which has captured national attention, has now hit a major point of friction between local and federal authorities, with Bongino sharply criticizing the decision made by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.
Bongino took to his platform to blast the sheriff’s office for sending a crucial piece of DNA evidence to a private lab in Florida, rather than submitting it directly to the FBI’s national crime lab. The delay caused by this decision has raised concerns that it may hinder the investigation’s progress.
“Listen, the cooperation here has not been spectacular,” Bongino said. “I mean, the decision to send this DNA sample to a private lab was just disastrous. The problem is the FBI does not typically accept DNA once the sample is properly processed by private labs. So what you’re looking at now is another delay, as the private lab will likely have to send it back to Arizona to submit it into CODIS [Combined DNA Index System]. So it was just unnecessary.”
Bongino’s frustration is shared by many who are closely following the case, with some arguing that this delay could cost valuable time in solving what has already become an increasingly complex and emotionally charged investigation. “What the hell, man?” Bongino continued, expressing his disbelief at the situation. “Just send it to the FBI lab. Why introduce another variable you don’t need in this?”
The controversy surrounding the DNA delay adds to an already tense atmosphere surrounding the case. While local authorities maintain that they are doing everything they can to solve the mystery of Guthrie’s disappearance, the involvement of private labs instead of federal agencies has drawn criticism, with many questioning whether this choice was made for the right reasons or if it’s simply an example of bureaucratic missteps.
As the investigation continues to unfold, questions about coordination between local and federal agencies will likely remain a point of contention, especially as delays could have long-term consequences for finding answers in this high-profile case.
