ABC’s Dancing With the Stars closed out Season 33 with an epic three-hour finale that helped the show reclaim some of its earlier success in the ratings.
The finale featured the top five contestants – Chandler Kinney, Ilona Maher, Danny Amendola, Joey Graziadei and Stephen Nedoroscik – each of whom performed two final dances with their partners.
Those scores from the judges combined with viewer votes resulted in The Bachelor alum Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson taking home the Mirrorball Trophy.
While the winners may have been deemed quite controversial by some fans online, the super-sized finale resulted in the show’s best ratings in four years, via ᴅᴇᴀᴅline.
The finale drew in 6.36 million people, which Nielsen says is the highest Live+Same Day total since the Season 29 finale back in 2020.

This year’s finale was also up 16% from the Season 32 finale, while also posting an impressive 25% jump from last week’s semifinal episode.
That show brought in an audience of 5.1 million, which, at the time, represented a season best viewership.

The show also posted huge gains in the coveted 18-49 demographic, with a 70% increase in viewership over last year.
The Season 33 finale’s 1.14 rating in the 18-49 demographic was the show’s best in seven years.
The show was posting slight decreases in same-day audiences from Season 32, however, the show’s voting records were regularly broken all season long.
Disney revealed there were a whopping 32 million votes cast for the DWTS Season 33 finale, which is 12 million more than last week’s semifinal round.

Many fans took to social media to lodge complaints of racism against Chandler and Brandon – the first Black duo to make the finals in DWTS history.
In the end, enough fans ultimately voted for winners Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson for them to take home the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.
Olympic rugby player and fan favorite Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten took second place, with Kinney and Armstrong third, Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold in fourth and Danny Amendola and Witney Carson in fifth.
