Ghost Recon Alpha (2012)

Before Breakpoint or Wildlands blew up the open-world formula, this 24-minute live-action short was the slickest love letter Tom Clancy fans could ask for. Directed by Oscar-winners François Alaux and Hervé de Crécy, Ghost Recon Alpha drops you straight into a near-future Russian snowstorm with the elite Ghost squad – Pepper, 30K, Chuck, and Bones – on a black-ops hunt to stop a nuke-smuggling warlord.
It’s basically a playable cutscene brought to life: night-vision stealth takedowns, quadcopter drone recon, suppressed gunfire cracking through the silence, and that signature Future Soldier tech (magnetic vision, anyone?) looking insanely cool in real-world grit. The action is tight, tactical, and brutal – one slow-mo headshot sequence still gives chills – while the score thumps like a heartbeat under fire.
Short, sweet, and zero filler. It was released as a prequel tie-in to the game, but stands alone as one of the best video-game promo shorts ever made. If you love Sicario-style military tension with sci-fi edge, queue this up tonight. Still holds up like body armor.
