At a routine 20-week ultrasound, Alexa received news that no parent is ever prepared to hear. Doctors identified multiple concerning abnormalities affecting her unborn baby’s spine, chest, and digestive system. The prognosis at that time was highly uncertain.

Faced with difficult possibilities, she chose to seek further medical evaluation. A second opinion provided a clearer diagnosis: a rare condition known as lymphatic malformation, in which the lymphatic vessels responsible for fluid drainage do not develop normally. In this case, the condition affected a significant portion of the right side of his body.

The pregnancy continued under close medical supervision, and the baby was born five weeks prematurely. Following his birth, he required a month-long stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where he received specialized support and monitoring.

Over the first several months of his life, he underwent multiple treatments aimed at managing his condition. At five months old, he traveled to the Mayo Clinic for a major surgical procedure that marked a critical turning point in his care.

That surgery significantly improved his condition and opened the door to further development, mobility, and growth.

Today, at 2½ years old, he is described as energetic, happy, and thriving. He engages actively with the world around him, showing curiosity, joy, and a growing independence that once seemed uncertain.
