On February 24, 2017, a Labrador Retriever named Sage disappeared into the woods of Boulder Creek, California. But Sage wasn’t just any dog—she was blind.

As hours turned into days, hope began to fade. The forest was already dangerous… but for a dog who couldn’t see, the odds were even worse. Still, her family refused to give up. They kept searching, calling her name, holding onto even the smallest hope.

Five days passed.

When many had already started to lose faith, a retired firefighter named Dan Estrada made a decision. Even though he was off duty, he couldn’t ignore the situation. Along with a friend, he headed into the forest, determined to try.

They searched for hours, pushing through rough terrain, scanning every corner. Just when they were about to give up… Dan spotted something.
