“She Just Learned to Walk”: 7-Month-Old Baby Killed in Brooklyn Shooting Meant for Someone Else

What should have been a quiet afternoon walk turned into an unimaginable tragedy for one family in Brooklyn.

Seven-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore was outside with her mother, Lianna Moore, and her brother, Kaizen, in East Williamsburg when gunfire suddenly erupted. In an instant, the peaceful moment was shattered.

A shooter riding a scooter fired toward the area, and a single bullet struck Kaori in the head.

Her mother watched in horror as her baby went limp in her arms. Nearby, her brother Kaizen jumped in fear, narrowly escaping the same fate — though the bullet left him with a painful injury to his back, a lasting reminder of that moment.

Desperate to save his daughter, Kaori’s father, Jamari Patterson, carried her in his arms and ran seven blocks to Woodhull Hospital. Every second mattered. But despite the urgency and the efforts of doctors, Kaori could not be saved.

Investigators later identified the suspect as Amuri Greene, who, along with an accomplice, was seen fleeing the scene on a scooter. Surveillance footage showed them crashing shortly after, but they managed to escape with the weapon.

Authorities believe the shooting was gang-related and likely targeted at Kaori’s father. Tragically, it was his infant daughter who paid the ultimate price.

The loss is made even more painful by the timing. Just weeks earlier, Kaori’s parents had gotten engaged, celebrating a future filled with hope. Kaori herself had just begun reaching milestones — her first steps, her first word — moments now frozen in memory.

Now, a family is left grieving a life that had only just begun, as a community mourns yet another innocent victim of senseless violence.
