Christmas 2019 was supposed to be just another busy season for Lindsey Law and her husband Jason, who were already caring for their two young children. But everything changed when Lindsey discovered she was pregnant.

At 20 weeks pregnant, Lindsey walked into a routine ultrasound appointment expecting reassurance. Instead, she heard the word no parent is ever prepared for: “defect.”

Doctors suspected a serious congenital heart condition. Soon after, their fears were confirmed. Their unborn daughter—later named Josie Kelly Law—had a complete atrioventricular canal defect (CAVC), a life-threatening heart abnormality that would require open-heart surgery within months of birth.

As if that weren’t enough, genetic testing revealed another diagnosis: Down syndrome (Trisomy 21).

In a single moment, Lindsey and Jason were forced to confront a future filled with medical uncertainty, difficult decisions, and societal judgment. Questions came from all directions—about survival, quality of life, and whether they should even continue the pregnancy.

But for Lindsey and Jason, the answer was clear.

A Life-Saving Surgery

On December 15, 2020, Josie underwent open-heart surgery.

For Lindsey and Jason, the hours felt endless. This was the moment that would determine everything. They faced not only fear but also deep emotional and spiritual questions—about control, faith, and what it means to trust in the unknown.

Then, the news came.

The surgery was a success.

Josie’s heart had been repaired.

Just eight days later, on December 23, she was discharged and finally brought home—just in time for Christmas. What once felt impossible had become reality.
