Israeli officials say a daring strike on a secret Tehran bunker linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader was made possible by a quiet war waged in the shadows by IDF intelligence units 8200 and 9900, turning bits and pixels into one of the conflict’s most dramatic blows.

According to security sources, Unit 8200 spent months hoovering up encrypted phone traffic, fibre‑optic data and microwave links moving in and out of a heavily guarded Revolutionary Guard compound in northern Tehran. Patterns of late‑night calls, burst transmissions and “silent windows” began to reveal an underground command complex far larger and deeper than Iran had ever admitted.

At the same time, elite geospatial specialists in Unit 9900 fed high‑resolution satellite imagery, radar scans and commercial drone footage into AI models to map every vent, elevator shaft and tunnel entrance disguised as harmless service buildings or garden structures. Minuscule changes in soil colour, heat signatures and vehicle tracks pointed to the likely heart of the bunker network.

When the strike order came, that intelligence package became the mission bible. F‑35s and F‑15s followed digital attack routes drawn by 9900 analysts; their bunker‑buster munitions were programmed using coordinates refined to within a few metres by fused 8200–9900 targeting cells. Massive blasts and days of secondary explosions suggest at least part of the underground complex collapsed.

Tehran insists its leadership is “unharmed” and calls the raid a failure.
