Riyadh — The heart of the US presence in Saudi Arabia has come under direct attack after a swarm of armed drones slammed into the perimeter of the American embassy compound in Riyadh, triggering a massive fire and plunging the kingdom deeper into the widening Iran war.

Residents in the diplomatic quarter reported loud blasts and streaks of light in the night sky as Saudi air defences scrambled to intercept multiple low‑flying drones approaching from the north and east. Several were shot down, but at least three devices penetrated the defensive screen, detonating near embassy buildings and vehicle bays. Flames shot high above the compound walls as black smoke drifted over nearby neighborhoods.
