“JUSTICE SERVED”: Compton Man Pleads Guilty to Brutal Concrete Attack on Border Patrol
Elpidio Reyna, 41, has pleaded guilty to one felony count of assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury, following a violent attack on Border Patrol officers during an anti-immigration enforcement riot in Paramount, California, on June 7, 2025.
Reyna was caught on camera throwing chunks of concrete at a convoy of law enforcement vehicles, one of which struck a vehicle’s glass, injuring a federal officer with a lacerated forehead. The attack took place amidst widespread unrest, with Reyna intentionally targeting government vehicles occupied by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers.
After the assault, Reyna fled to Mexico, placing himself on the FBI’s “Most Wanted” list, with a $50,000 reward for his capture. He was eventually tracked down in the state of Sinaloa and turned himself in at the San Ysidro Port of Entry on July 23, 2025.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli condemned Reyna’s actions, noting that the attack “could have easily killed a federal officer” and reiterated that violence against law enforcement is not constitutionally protected.
United States District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha has scheduled Reyna’s sentencing for August 7, 2026. Under federal law, Reyna faces up to 20 years in prison for the assault.
In response to the case, Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stressed that the administration would not tolerate violence against officers, declaring that rioters would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
