Law Enforcement Should Not Be Optional

For years, many Americans have watched state and local leaders openly resist federal immigration enforcement. In some places, cooperation with ICE has been limited or blocked, making it harder for agents to carry out their legal responsibilities.

Supporters of stronger enforcement argue that this isn’t about hostility toward immigrants — it’s about consistency and the rule of law. When officials refuse to cooperate with federal authorities, they create confusion, weaken accountability, and send mixed messages about which laws matter.

No public official should be above the law. If obstructing law enforcement carries consequences for ordinary citizens, then the same standard should apply to elected leaders. Accountability is essential to maintaining public trust.

Border security, lawful immigration, and public safety can coexist — but only when rules are enforced fairly and consistently. Compassion and enforcement don’t have to conflict, but neither can exist without responsibility.

Strong leadership means upholding the law while protecting communities.
